Enabling Living Independently Today & Everyday - Staffordshires peer support group for direct payments and personal budgets

Welcome to E.L.I.T.E Centre for Independent Living

The Centre of Independent Living is an on-line resource providing support services for disabled people and carers in Staffordshire and surrounding areas.

E.L.I.T.E is a peer support organisation run and managed by disabled people and carers for disabled people and carers.

Employees/Volunteers of the Centre for Independent Living are disabled/carers and know first hand how difficult it can be to access information that disabled people, their families, carers and friends need.

We aim to aim to provide  the information, support and guidance disabled people and carers need, if we cannot do so, then we will put you in touch with someone who can.

Many people believe that independence is doing everything for yourself, and therefore as disabled people often need assistance in their daily life, they cannot be independent. Disabled people challenge this assumption.

We say that independence is not about doing everything for yourself, no-one lives in isolation from the rest of the world, we all depend on each other, this is why we all live as a society.

Our vision is of an exclusive society in which disabled people are fully integrated by leading full and independent lives.

Our method
is that of promoting mutual support among those who are striving to lead full and independent lives by taking control of the management of everyday affairs.

Our impact will be to reduce the social exclusion of disabled people as well as the social cost of this exclusion
