Arts & Crafts in Staffordshire!

E.L.I.T.E are starting up arts and crafts sessions in Leek, Cheadle and Kidsgrove with the lovely Viv Young. The sessions will cater for both disabled adults (16+) and their Carers. Throughout the sessions, Viv will guide you through a variety of different skills using materials such as paper, textiles and multi-sensory items.

All places must be booked in advance. To book your place and to find out more information, please call the Elite office on 01782 662872/611992 or email h.tunnicliffe@elitestaffordshire.co.uk

These groups are aimed at adults (16+) with disabilities and their Carers. Date to be confirmed once all places are booked. Entrance fee is £3. If you need support, please make sure you bring your carer/PA with you, who will be admitted free of charge. Refreshments are provided.

Lights, Camera, Action!

E.L.I.T.E are starting up a drama group at Kidsgrove Town Hall with the fabulous Steve Mitchell! We aim to improve confidence, learn new skills, and most of all, have fun!
There will be a performance at the end of a group of sessions to allow you to show off your fantastic talents. The performance will be based on ideas that YOU bring to the group – this could be things you enjoy, things that make you angry, or something just plain daft!

Equip 4 Change – Info Event

Equip 4 Change have organised an information event for family carers of people with learning disabilities aged 14 – 65 plus on Thursday 8 March 2012 in Birmingham.

The event includes speakers from Job Centre Plus, Access to Work and Benefits Advice.

Activities on the Farm!

Disabled children, young people and their families are invited to the Chase Aqua Rural Enterprise Activities on the Farm event on Wednesday 15 February 2012, 10am – 3pm.

The event will take place at Upper Moreton Farm, Bishton Lane, Wolseley Bridge, Stafford, ST18 0XE.

There will be various activities including meeting the farm animals, making bird feeders and creating a spring planter. There is access available for wheelchairs/pushchairs.

Families are asked to wear warm clothes but in the event of bad weather activities will take place indoors.

Drinks are available throughout the day, however, families are asked to take their own packed lunch

All places must be booked in advance.

SPAN – Transfer Toolkits Workshops

Are you the parent or carer of a child with special educational needs or a disability in Staffordshire? Staffordshire Parent Action Network (“SPAN”) invites you to a workshop to give your views on its new Transfer Toolkit! The Transfer Toolkit aims to make moving to a new setting a much easier experience for children and young people.

The events are designed for parents of children with special needs and or disabilities from early years to early adulthood. Through the workshops, parents can give their views on what they like about the Transfer Toolkit and how it could be improved, prior to its official launch.

There will be an opportunity for parents and carers to gather information from a range of people who provide services and support. You will be able to find out more about moving to a new school or setting as well as further education, employment, training and support for young people in their early adult years.

You can choose to attend any of the four FREE events, which are being held at locations throughout Staffordshire on the following dates:
• 9th February at Patshull Hotel & Country Club, nr Wolverhampton
• 23rd Febuary at Branston Golf & Country Club, Burton on Trent
• 8th March at Tillington Hall Hotel, Stafford
• 28th March at The Moat House, Stoke on Trent

A group of local charities are getting together and over the next few months will be holding a series of free information events focusing on social care provision in North Staffordshire. All events are free and fully accessible, a BSL interpreter and loop system will be available. Each session starts at 10:00 am and will be finished by 2:00 pm. Free refreshments will be available throughout the day including a light lunch (if you have any special requirements, please contact 01782 662872).
