There will be a performance at the end of a group of sessions to allow you to show off your fantastic talents. The performance will be based on ideas that YOU bring to the group – this could be things you enjoy, things that make you angry, or something just plain daft!

We will be using a variety of learning styles to understand important topics such as addition and subtraction, telling the time, money handling, story-telling, creative writing and spelling secrets!

Sessions are every Thursday afternoon starting Thursday 12th January 2012 1.30pm – 3.15pm at Newcastle under Lyme Library (please arrive at 1.20pm for a prompt start).

If support is required, Carers/Personal Assistants will need to accompany members at ALL times. Sessions are charged at £3 per session. Carers/Personal Assistants are admitted FREE of charge to all sessions. Tea and coffee is provided free of charge.

You will be shown exactly what tasks need to be done and shown how to complete the tasks by the Park Staff. Please ensure that you wear appropriate clothing that you do not mind getting dirty. All are welcome, if you do require support then you must ensure that you are accompanied by your own Carer/Personal Assistant.

Location:-  Various parks in the Newcastle area. You will be advised as to which are we are currently working on when you book your place.

This activity runs on a Wednesday. Places are limited, to book your place please contact Lisa Ansell at E.L.I.T.E on 01782 662872. You will only be allowed to take part if you have pre booked a place.

Time:  10.30 am—you can organise with the Park Staff when you would like to leave.

The ELITE Theatre Project will provide the opportunity for People with Learning Disabilities to work with the theatre enriching the lives of the participants and bringing new energies and ideas into the theatre community.

All participants will become a part of the ELITE Theatre Company and will develop their own ideas and aspirations for the company through engaging with highly professional and qualified practitioners.

Members of the ELITE Theatre Company will participate in weekly workshops and full-day theatre residencies leading to presentations and performances. In addition they will have access to the resources of the theatre including opportunities to see theatre performances.

THEATRE and DRAMA WORKSHOPS

Participants will have the opportunity to meet new people, make new friends, develop their creativity, learn new skills and have fun.

Participation in workshops will:

• Develop confidence in communication, presentation of self in everyday life, and body language.
• Develop the ability to work together as part of a team
• Explore problem solving mechanisms and an ability to access support and also to be supportive of other people in the group.
• Develop ambition and aspiration and the self-belief that comes with engagement.
• Develop with participants a voice through which they can express their concerns and aspirations on behalf of themselves and as positive citizens and members of society
• Provide the opportunity for participants to deliver a presentation to an audience of friends’ family community members, trainers, organisations and agencies.

A stepping stone to a better life for disabled people and carers…

In 2001 there was nothing out there to support the needs of disabled people and their carers, who were accessing Self Directed Support and for this reason we decided that we should set up a true User Led Organisation. After all, we are the “Experts by Experience”.

In 2008 E.L.I.T.E became a Community Interest Company (not for profit organisation). We received funding to hold Peer Support groups in every district in Staffordshire. We work in partnership with similar organisations, sharing resources and providing a better service for the people that count…YOU.

Today we still offer information and advice surrounding Direct Payments and Personal Budgets and provide activities in our local communities. We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to live full and independent lives… We believe that we have the tools to allow all Service Users and Carers live the life they want to.

We have only come this far with the dedicated support of our members, for which we say thank you!
